Description
Description
A ceiling stain that looks dry can still hold water behind the paint. The Protimeter SurveyMaster Moisture Meter checks it 2 ways: push the pins in for an exact reading, or sweep search mode across walls and floors to map wet zones without leaving holes. Reference mode then shows you whether your drying work is succeeding. It comes as a standalone instrument or as the Thermal Survey Kit.
This upgraded SurveyMaster has a larger display than earlier models, which makes readings easier to see in dim basements and crawl spaces. It runs an automatic calibration check every 50 power cycles, so you can trust each reading without tracking calibration yourself. Battery life is now 3 times longer than previous models, which means fewer battery changes partway through a job.
Key Features and Benefits of the Protimeter SurveyMaster Moisture Meter
- Pin Mode: The meter's 2 sharp pins reach up to 0.4 inches into the material for exact readings of 7.9 to 99 percent wood moisture equivalent.
- Search Mode: Electromagnetic signals read up to 0.75 inches below the surface on a 70 to 999 relative scale, so you can scan wallpapered walls without making pin holes.
- Reference Mode: Saves a first reading in both pin and search modes and shows later readings beneath it, so you can see whether moisture is going up or down.
- Programmable Alarms: Set your own dry, wet, and at-risk thresholds, and a buzzer sounds when readings go past them, so you can work without watching the screen.
- 5 Material Types: Reads drywall, hardwood, softwood, concrete, and fiberglass, so one meter covers the materials you'll meet on most restoration jobs.
- 8-Ounce Body: At 8 ounces with a wrist strap, the meter stays comfortable in your hand through a long walk-through inspection.
- Automatic Shutoff: You can set the meter to turn off after 1 to 6 minutes without a key press, which saves battery between readings.
- Operating Range: Works from 32 to 122 degrees F, so you can take readings in unheated basements in winter or hot attics in summer.
- Certified Build: Carries CE and ETL certifications and RoHS compliance, so you know the meter meets recognized safety and materials standards.
Meter Only or Thermal Survey Kit: Choose Your Package
You can get the SurveyMaster as the SurveyMaster Instrument (dr5922) or as the Thermal Survey Kit (pr15352), depending on whether you want thermal imaging on site. The SurveyMaster Instrument package is the meter alone, measuring 2.72 inches wide, with a low-battery indicator that tells you when to replace the 9-volt battery. It suits you if your inspections rely on moisture readings alone. The Thermal Survey Kit pairs the meter, which measures 2.75 inches wide, with a SEEK Shot Pro thermal camera, whose 320 x 240 thermal sensor and 57-degree field of view capture clear, high-resolution images so you can photograph a structure and identify problem areas on the spot.
Sylvane's Expert Take
If you run water damage restoration or remediation jobs, this meter is worth carrying because search mode quickly maps a wall and pin mode then confirms the exact reading. It works best for drying checks on drywall and wood framing, where reference mode tracks your progress from visit to visit. The pins are very sharp, so keep the attached pin cap on when you are not using them. Pick the meter alone for routine moisture checks, or go with the Thermal Survey Kit when you also want to photograph problem areas.
